Business maturity
We can define the word maturity in many ways.
I use the term business maturity to define various levels of competence in managing a business. They include sound management practices, the ability to discern in the decision-making process as well as understanding and appreciating human and financial values.
Are you ripe for business? Did I just call you a fruit? Not at all, but the analogy is great. In fact, I like all the definitions, I believe they relate quite well to what makes you successful in Real Estate.
New or experienced in the business, how do you answer the following questions?
-
How do I rate in business maturity?
-
Do I possess or master the required skills to have a successful career? If not, what do I have to improve?
-
Am I mature of mind and disciplined enough to recognize that I must apply myself fully in all interactions with clients? More precisely apply myself every month, week, (working) day and interaction so as to succeed?
-
Does my business model (the way I work, the schedule I have, the fees I charge etc.) it is workable and profitable? Is it a successful model enabling me to grow every year? Can I reproduce the results yearly?
-
Am I able to manage my state of mind, cope with the emotional states of all involved (including myself)?
Some would answer: “But I am not a machine, it’s not easy, it’s complicated.”
In fact, no, it’s not complicated!
Simply choose to develop business maturity. As an example, whenever you take a commercial flight, you expect that the pilot performs his landing manoeuvres perfectly every single time, you get the grasp.
You do not want a pilot who continuously second guesses himself or his procedures, which would not go well for him, the plane, and your fellow passengers.
The message is simple, as a Real Estate broker, you must realize that you want to attain and achieve a high level of competence in appraising, selling skills, marketing and so on. Can you imagine no more doubts, insecurity and uncertainty? A successful business model ensures that you have well-listed properties thus enabling you to put together a dynamic marketing plan which is proactive rather than passive, helping clients move through the decision-making process. That is business maturity.
Some would say: “Are you ripe?” I’d rather say “Stop going bananas” :-)
